Assemblies at CES serve many purposes. Some are designed to build school spirit and moral while others are educational. The students engage in a collective experience that reflects positivity and enriches learning. We strive to have several assemblies throughout the school year which are paid for by funds raised by the PTA.
These two events are held during the year to provide a fun opportunity for students to spend time with their parents at school before their school day starts. It's also a great way for parents to meet other parents!
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated across the country during October. At CES, our focus is on friendship. During "Friendship Week" everyone had an opportunity to participate in the fun theme of the day and show how much we care about our friends at school. Friendship Week is scheduled for October 2017.
Each year our Scholastic Book Fair offers a chance for students to shop with their class and with their parents after school. Proceeds from the Book Fair are used to purchased new books for the school library. This year's Book Fair will be held in Spring 2018.
We offer several different styles of Spirit Wear that are available in Youth and Adult sizes. Students are encouraged to
wear their Spirit Wear on Fridays and show their Cub Spirit! The shirts are also great for parents and students to wear
on field trips. Spirit Wear will be available for order in Fall 2017.
The "Reading is Fun!!!" program is designed for Kindergarteners and First Graders at CES. By rewarding students for their efforts every month, we hope to inspire pre-readers to eagerly begin reading on their own, and continue to do so with a life-long love of reading.
Every month your child will receive a reminder to visit our website to view the current "Reading Is Fun!!!" worksheet, which is found on the Forms page. In order to participate, your child should do the following:
1. Your child should select two books that relate to the monthly topics listed on the top of the worksheet.
2. After reading the chosen books with or without parental help, your child with aid should complete one side of the worksheet or paper per book. As your child’s writing abilities grow, you can encourage them to start writing some of the information on their own.
3. After they’ve read their two books, please sign the worksheet or paper, and turn it into the teacher by the last school day of that month. The due date will also be at the top of the worksheet under the listed monthly topics.
4. Every child who participates will receive a reward for his or her efforts at the beginning of the following month.
Remember, any reading that your child does to earn his or her reward can also count towards the nightly homework reading. Also, every month the children’s librarian at the Castaic Public Library will have a display of books ready to check out that apply to the current "Reading Is Fun!!!" topics. We hope your child has a fun learning experience with this throughout the entire year ahead.

The Green Club consists of 5th-6th graders who work together each Thursday afternoon to collect recycling from the classrooms to dump into the large recycling bins for pickup.
School memories are captured forever in a yearbook. We publish a 80-page full-color yearbook that is distributed during the last week of school. Yearbooks will be available for pre-order in early 2018.
